Knight Rider season 1 is now available worldwide from universal, with tons of extras. USA saw a release first with the box set show below. This disc holds all episodes from season 1 as well as the 1991 release, Knight Rider 2000. As well as Knight Sounds and Knight Moves!

In the first disc, over the pilot episode, is a full-length commentary from star David Hasslehoff and series creator/writer Glen Larson. Despite the fact that the levels on this track seem a tad low, there’s some fun information in here and listening to the two ‘main guns’ of the series reminisce about their work makes for a good time. Aside from that, there is an approximately six minute long documentary called Knight Moves that focuses on the stunt work done in the show, and how they managed to get the car to do what it could do. A second short documentary entitled Knight Sounds takes a look at the music that was created for the show, with most of the focus put on the series’ instantly recognizable theme song. Knight Rider – Under The Hood runs just over fifteen minutes and is a nice, well rounded ‘making of’ retrospective that looks back on the series run through interviews with Hasslehoff, Larson, and a few others involved in making the show. A decent sized still gallery of black and white behind the scenes production stills and a gallery of blue prints for the car, the truck, and some of the other hardware seen on the series can also be found on the fourth disc. Finally, the KITT Owner’s Manual is a fun feature that allows viewers, through their remote control, to figure out through pop ups what all the buttons on the dashboard of the car were supposed to be used for.

The Red 1 DVD can be purchased from amazon.com for $59.99 here
England saw its release on Sept 13th, and our copy sports a different cover to Americas, shown aside. The only differences with the Reg 2 version, is the teasers before each episode is missing, and all is placed onto 8 discs mean no duel discs. It has all the extras in which America got, here Matthew fellow administrator of Knight Rider UK gives his review
Knight Rider UK Review
What was the big bump in the road you might be asking? Well the big bump is the fact that the first thing you need to do when you buy the Region 2 set is go straight to disk 7 so that you can watch the feature length pilot episode Knight Of The Phoenix. Why would Universal put Knight Of The Phoenix on disk 7 you might be asking? Well it is most likely nothing more than a simple error that no one spotted before it was released, and I have to say that I find it to be completely deplorable that a company as world renowned as Universal could manage to release a box set that was essentially declared perfect for Region 1 users, and stuff it up so badly when converting it over to Region 2. With It being such a huge error, I am hopeful that Universal will rectify this problem quickly, and recall all of the box sets that have already been dispatched, so that they can be replaced by a product that is worthy of our £49.99, as it isn’t worth it in it’s current condition I’m afraid. As I’m sure you can tell I would be lying if I said that my enjoyment of the box set hadn’t been badly marred by the huge Knight Of The Phoenix error. However, despite that, all of the episodes are very well presented. The picture quality is excellent. The extras are also good. They are all well presented, but only Knight Of The Phoenix Commentary and Knight Rider 2000 last longer then 5 minutes. Knight Rider 2000 on the other hand disappointed me. The picture quality seemed worse than all the other episodes on the tape, despite the fact it was almost ten years younger, which gives me the impression that it wasn’t polished off for the box set like the other episodes clearly were. So would I recommend buying this set to all of you? In all honestly, I’d only recommend it if you don’t have the ability to play Region 1 DVD’s. I just can’t get past the error, and in all honesty, why should I get past it. We have waited for so many years for this box set, and now that we finally have it, it’s been stuffed up by a stupid error that should have never happened in the first place. If you can’t play Region 1 DVD’s however, and you decide to buy the Region 2 box set, I would recommend that you wait for a month or two to see if Universal rectify the error before going out and buying it, as if they do, the box set will definitely be worth buying, and I would be completely willing to recommend that you all go out and buy it, which is something that I just cannot do with it in its current condition.
